Ingredients

2¼ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup granulated sugar

1 tbsp baking powder

¾ tsp salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate, chips, morsels, or chunks

¾ cup butter , unsalted

1½ cups milk

3 large eggs, yolks and whites separated

1 tbsp vanilla extract

cooking spray, for waffle iron

whipped cream

chocolate shavings

powdered sugar

fresh fruit

Preparation

Microwave the chocolate and butter on High in 15-second intervals for 4 times or more until fully melted, stirring after each interval.

Cool to room temperature.

While waiting, whip the egg whites to stiff peaks in a glass or aluminum bowl.

In another bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Add the egg yolks, milk, and vanilla extract to the chocolate mixture. Stir.

Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture then stir just until combined.

Gently fold the egg whites into the batter.

Heat up the waffle iron and spritz with cooking spray. Cook waffles according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Top with whipped cream, powdered sugar, or your preferred toppings. Serve and enjoy!
