Ingredients

2½ tsp active yeast, dry

2¼ cups water, warm

½ tsp sugar, to activate yeast

4 oz butter, 1 stick

4 eggs

1 tsp ground cinnamon

8 oz cream cheese, 1 package Philadelphia cream cheese

2½ cups sugar

½ tsp baking powder, Calumet

3½ cups flour

2 tbsp baking soda

¼ tsp ground cloves

1 cup nuts

1 cup honey

1 tsp salt

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Dissolve the active yeast with a ½ teaspoon of sugar and warm water. Wait for bubbles to form.

Beat butter, cream cheese and sugar until well blended with yeast mixture.

Add eggs one at a time, allowing each to be mixed properly.

Add the honey (as much or as little as you want) by drizzling it in.

Combine dry ingredients one by one into the mixture then stir in the nuts, if desired.

Cover the dough with a cheesecloth and set aside in a warm place. Allow the dough to rise, about 2 hours. This is the proofing step of bread making.

After, knead the dough and place into a loaf pan and bake for roughly an hour.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for an hour or so.

Drizzle honey on top afterwards, if desired, as well.
