Ingredients

2tbspolive oil

1largeonion, finely chopped

3clovesgarlic, minced

2lbslean ground beef

8oztomato sauce,(1 can)

14.5oztomatoes,(1 can) diced

2½cupswater

⅓cupchili powder

1tbspcumin,ground

2tspsalt

1tspblack pepper,ground

2tspMexican oregano,dried

2tspcayenne pepper

1tbspwhite sugar

15ozpinto beans,(3 cans) drained

Preparation

Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over high heat.

Stir in the onion and garlic. Cook and stir for 2 to 3 minutes just until the garlic can be smelled.

Add the ground beef and cook, stirring frequently for about 5 minutes, until crumbly and no longer pink.

Remove from the heat and stir in the tomato sauce, tomatoes, and water.

Season with chili powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, oregano, cayenne, and sugar.

Place the mixture over medium heat and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 1 hour.

Remove the cover and stir in the beans.

Replace the cover and continue cooking for about 15 minutes., until fully heated through.
